In 2000, officials of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine broke ground for a $15 million, four-story addition adding 100,000 square feet to the existing LECOM building to provide the medical school with space to meet current and projected needs. The expansion provided new teaching and study areas for the growing medical school enrollment. In 2000, the projected future enrollment possible for LECOM was 1,000 students.

In addition to the groundbreaking for the expansion, the first students in LECOM’s Problem-Based Learning Pathway matriculated.
